Crime prevention is a long-term investment in public safety, trust, and social cohesion — one that requires far more than reactive law enforcement. Successful prevention depends not only on structures and tools, but also on institutional change, partnership-based decision-making, and community consent, informed by cultural context and human rights considerations, including robust oversight mechanisms.

Uzhhorod, Ukraine, 29 July 2026: Twenty practitioners from across Ukraine gathered in Uzhhorod on 28-29 July 2026 for a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) organized under the THEMIS Project, a joint initiative co-funded by the Governments of Canada and Norway and implemented by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

On 13-17 July 2026, UNICRI conducted a third practical training course for operative officers on special operations aimed at countering radiological and nuclear (RN) trafficking. The training was held at the United Nations Campus in Turin, Italy and brought together representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine dealing with RN security.
