UNICRI’s Headquarters in Turin, Italy, will set the stage at 5 p.m. CET on Friday 9 July to honor the Class 2021 of the Master of Laws (LL.M) in Transnational Crime and Justice.
The Master of Laws is designed for professionals and university graduates wishing to specialize in the fields of international law dimensions of peace and conflicts, transnational crimes and transitional justice, humanitarian law, international criminal law and procedure, and international human rights law. This unique training opportunity is conceived to empower new generations to address the challenges of today, and tomorrow, through substantive knowledge and innovative thinking.
The implementation of the LL.M. programme, co-organized by UNICRI and the University for Peace (UPEACE), supports the aims of Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which calls for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
Leif Villadsen, Deputy Director of UNICRI, will open the Closing Ceremony by welcoming graduates and guests, followed by Antonia Marie De Meo, Director of UNICRI, and Francisco Rojas Aravena, Rector of UPEACE. Among the speakers: Giuseppina Maddaluno, co-Coordinator of the Master for UNICRI; Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, Dean of UPEACE; Mihir Kanade, co-Coordinator of the Master; and Mr. Nobuo Hayashi, LL.M. Programme’s Moot Court Coordinator and Visiting Professor. During the ceremony, students will receive the LL.M. in Transnational Crime and Justice Degree certificates. This extraordinary moment for the students will culminate when the top three graduates will be awarded. The event will also envisage the Moot Court Awards.
The ceremony is an important opportunity to honor the students, learn about their experience, commitment, and ability to achieve such an important goal during this challenging time.
The pandemic has disrupted more class time for students worldwide than any other event of global magnitude. Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, students have had to adapt to taking their classes and meeting fellow students and teachers online.
Participants will have the opportunity to attend the ceremony online, as they had their classes since starting the Master programme on 23 November 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or join the celebration in person, to mark the transition. UNICRI and UPEACE are therefore excited that the current COVID-19 situation will allow those who are able and willing to travel to finally meet face-to-face, connect in real life, and visit the United Nations Campus premises in Turin for the first time.
