Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian authorities have reported the loss of regulatory control over more than 1,500 radioactive sources. These materials are extremely dangerous, and pose serious risks to both people and the environment. Moreover, the possibility of some of these radioactive materials falling into the wrong hands could have devastating consequences for the region and beyond.

On 12 to 13 July 2023, 37 officers from over 15 Ukrainian state agencies, including the State Border Guard Service, the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management, the National Security and Defense Council, the Ministry of Defense, the Security Service and the National Police, completed a two-day in-person training in Kyiv entitled “Stop the virus of disinformation.”

On 22 February 2023, experts from a wide range of Ukrainian State agencies and ministries attended an online training entitled “Stop the virus of disinformation”. The training aimed to provide participants with techniques on how to detect and respond to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) disinformation, as well as communicate with the media following a CBRN event.
